PDDCP trains GK Sunshineville

PDDCP trains GK Sunshineville: Produces a new line of silver bags with colorful, sturdier straps!

by Marjorie Duterte

Trainors from the Product Development and Design Center of the Philippines, attached agency of the Department of Trade and Industry, visited GK Sunshineville in Las Pinas last July 27 to teach residents how to dye jute straps for their famous silver bags.

PDDCP trainors Elsie Lucero and Marleen Munio generously shared their knowledge to eight members of the community entrprise to help them improve their products and update their skills.

Ate Gia, Maria, Gean, and Chona of GK Sunshineville together with their neighbors learned how to properly dye jute handles used in their silver bags, making the natural fiber sturdier and more beautiful with color added to it.

"The training was relevant in the continuous development of new designs for our products," shared the Kapitbahayan.

Fans of the eco-friendly bags made from recycled Zesto doy packs provided by Maraming Bayani Foundation will now be able to purchase a silver bag with different colored straps that will not stain even when wet.

"The training was an eye-opener for GK Sunshineville weavers that there are millions of possibilities and opportunities to improve and develop their products," shared Ivan Quiwa, GKonomics Enterprise Development Manager.

Through PDDCP's assistance, GKonomics enterprises will be able to improve their products continuously and be able to come up with new designs that are truly world-class.

PDDCP Executive Director Myrna Sunico has been a staunch supporter of Gkonomics since last year. Through her valuable assistance, community enterprises are able to learn from PDDCP's knowledge and expertise; equipping GK residents with techniques and new skills to help them develop their works further.

Through PDDCP's trainings, GKonomics community enterprises can expect to improve the quality and competitiveness of their products.
